Rhodes College Pedestrian Bridge

Location:  Memphis, Tennessee

The historic Rhodes College in midtown Memphis continues to enhance their campus for its growing student body.  An opportunity arose to purchase a renovated housing facility on North Parkway.  There was no access to the property from the main campus even though the properties shared a common boundary.  Lick Creek separated the two properties.

Lick Creek is a concrete lined drainage channel within a 45 foot wide public drainage easement.  The solution for connectivity to the main campus was the design and construction of a pedestrian bridge over the creek.

Burr & Cole was the Prime Designer for this 70’ long span by 10’ wide bridge.  Now that the bridge is installed and open, the students can ride their bicycles a short distance or walk over the bridge and are on the main campus.  The project was a huge success for the students and administration of this proud institution.
