Emergency Service Routes Evaluation of 25 Highway Bridges for Seismic Performance

Location:  Shelby County, Tennessee Burr & Cole evaluated 25 highway bridges in Shelby County and determined their performance during a seismic event. The bridges were evaluated using three methods:  1) Federal Highway Administration, 2) HAZ-US, and 3) on-site inspections.  The results of the evaluation were used to determine emergency services routes for Shelby County after a significant seismic event.  The Shelby County Government used the study to assist in routing essential supplies as part of their emergency management preparedness....

Seismic Hazard Mitigation Planning Study at The MED

Location:  Memphis, Tennessee We performed a Tier 1 and Tier 2 Seismic Hazard Screening for multiple buildings at Regional One (formerly The Regional Medical Center – The MED). As the Prime Designer, we performed a Seismic Hazard Evaluation for Shelby County.   This study included an ASCE 31-03 / ASCE 41-06 Tier 1 and Tier 2 Seismic Evaluation Report including Rehabilitation Strategies, Rough Order of Magnitude Cost Estimates, and Risk Analysis and Cost Benefit Study. Rhodes College West Village Residence Hall

Location: Memphis, Tennessee The Rhodes College West Village provides students with three floors and 52,000 square feet of residence hall space including several common spaces and two fireplaces.  The West Village Residence Hall contains 141 beds.  Half of the living spaces are single room suites while the remaining half is made up of double room suites.  Each living space includes a common kitchen area, living room area and bathroom.  There are laundry facilities on each floor of the structure. In designing this beautiful, Gothic style building, it was important that the structure blend in with the surrounding campus.  The area required site work that would smoothly and attractively connect the new structure to existing campus buildings.
