The University of Tennessee is the state’s flagship comprehensive institution whose vision is to be the preeminent public research and teaching university linking the people of Tennessee to the nation and the world. In order to move this vision forward, the University needed a state of the art science center. The end result is the UT Basic/Clinical Sciences Research Building.
This facility is a 101,370 SF 4 story plus basement composite steel building. This structure was designed to withstand limited vibrations without damage to sensitive scientific instruments. It was important that the design provide space for educational excellence, pursuit of knowledge, scientific study while enhancing the campus environment. A cooling tower on the roof, loading deck, service yard, and screen walls are included in the Burr & Cole design. The seismic performance category is “D”.
